Waterford Greens Cross-Endorsed, Foundation Set for Future Collaboration

Waterford, CT- At a caucus on the evening of Monday, July 24, the Waterford Democratic Town Committee (DTC) voted to cross-endorse four Green candidates for office. Waterford Green Party Co-Chairs Baird Welch-Collins and Joshua Steele Kelly began discussing the concept of cross-endorsements with the Democrats back in May, and are very pleased that the idea was met with enthusiasm from most members of the DTC. The two leaders of the Green Town Committee hope that this is only the first step toward fostering greater collaboration between town parties, and also hope that this cooperation can serve as a model for state and national parties that too often focus solely on what divides communities rather than what can bring them together.

Two of the Greens that received cross-endorsements, Darcy Van Ness (for Zoning Board of Appeals Alternate) and Andrew Frascarelli (RTM District 1) will be formally endorsed by the Green Party at their nominating convention this coming Saturday, July 29. The other two, Carl D’Amato (RTM D4) and Josh Kelly (RTM D3), were endorsed by the Greens at a previous nominating convention. The Greens will continue to review candidates over the course of this week, including registered Democrats, and will make their final set of endorsements at Saturday’s meeting. The party expects to run candidates for each office, and will include candidates in their endorsements that are not registered Greens.

Anyone interested in getting involved with the Waterford Green Party’s hands-on community volunteer efforts, learning about their comprehensive platform, or who may be interested in running for office are encouraged to attend their next meeting and nominating convention at 10:00am on Saturday, July 29, 2017 at the Waterford Public Library.
